HW3 – A major update to the Autopilot ECU using Tesla’s own chip design. As an early adopter of the Model 3 (April 2018), I did purchase EAP (not FSD). Being 2018, of course I have HW 2.5. EAP was only available for a limited time and consists of most the FSD features, so far. I have navigate on autopilot (freeway only) and smart summon. The question is will I just took delivery of my new 2019 SR+ Model 3 with FSD option.
HW3 FSD upgrade replaces the AP processor. The MCU is not upgraded as there is nothing new in the MCU for the M3 and it has nothing to do with FSD. Now Tesla may replace both the AP and MCU as part of the retrofit for convenience, as both are bundled into the same housing. They are separate modules in the S/X.

It passes along data to the main computer to help display the autopilot graphics on the main screen.
